The latest addition to BMW’s lineup is the XM, a beast of an SUV that packs a punch. With a hefty price tag of $159,995, it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. Under the hood, you’ll find a powerful plug-in-hybrid powertrain, combining a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine with an electric motor. This dynamic duo is sandwiched between the engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission, giving the XM an impressive boost.

The BMW XM 2023 is not your ordinary hybrid BMW SUV. It’s actually the ultimate powerhouse from BMW! With its 4.4-liter V8 BMW M TwinPower Turbo combustion engine and a super-efficient electric motor, this beast is capable of unleashing a mind-blowing 644 horses and a whopping 590 pound-feet of torque.

Pricing

The XM may be a bit pricey to start, but it’s worth it for all the luxurious features it comes with. You’ll get leather seats, massive 23-inch wheels, a sleek curved infotainment screen, and plenty of driver-assistance tech. Plus, keep an eye out for the special Label Red edition coming in 2024, which will have a whopping 738 horsepower and some seriously cool design elements inside and out.

Overview

The BMW XM comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine, which is no stranger to the powertrain lineup. However, what sets it apart is the addition of an electric motor and a battery pack, resulting in an impressive 644 horsepower. When we took it for a spin, we were blown away by the power it delivered right from the start. We initially estimated that it would take around 3.8 seconds for the XM to reach 60 mph, but to our surprise, it surpassed our expectations with a lightning-fast 3.4-second sprint to 60 mph when we tested it on our own turf.

The XM is at a slight disadvantage compared to other performance SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid. These SUVs managed to reach zero-to-60-mph times of 3.2 seconds in our testing. Unlike them, the XM utilizes a coil-spring suspension system with adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars. While it may not be as smooth and composed as it would be with an air suspension, the Comfort driving mode provides a comfortable ride without being punishing. Switching to Sport mode, the XM’s handling becomes responsive and eager, making it a thrilling experience on twisty roads.
